The Human Potential

Wasn't quite happy with the focus on a couple of these shots. Hardly noticable though. Super high shutter speeds, experiementing with ISO speeds, using the Nikkon D100. Hope you like this.

Loosely based on a fictional short story I wrote earlier in the year entitled The Church Burners, the images in The Human Potential are representative of man’s tendency to act upon his less-virtuous emotions. The story portrays two young men, lost in a web of deception and evil that they have little understanding of. Also inspired by the themes brought up in William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, The Human Potential aims to remind its audience of the power of revenge, hate and ideology. It is an analysis of innocence, and its presence (or lack thereof) within human nature. Is evil an inherent characteristic in all of us? If so, how much control do we have over it? Even though social, spiritual and emotional development of the human race is a possibility, our potential to commit evil will probably always exist.

Questions arise.

Do our own actions define the future? Is consequence a product of choice or fate? What is it that leads us to cross the ambiguous line of ‘good and evil’? Is evil an inherent aspect of human nature, and do we all have an instinctive knowledge of what is right and wrong? Is it the knowledge that we are only human on which we justify our immoralities and darker desires?

yup, this is very Lord of the Flies. Although there is a lot of individuality in it, that is you put your own ideas and ways of interpreting the Human Potential.

For some reason, i keep thinking of Ralph when i look at this. I keep imagining him waking up one day in London and feeling absolutely pissed off with what had happened on the island and his desire to have revenge. I imagine him getting out of his apartment and off he goes to kill Jack or something.

but if you hadn't mention Golding there, i would've thought differently. Something like, a troubled religious/good/dork/nerd/whatever teenager who has tendencies to break out, letting himself loose to be whatever he desires to be.
